Comb-crested Jacana - 2007-06-20 07:32:36
These delightful little birds might be found anywhere there are lilly pads in the waters of tropical lagoons and swamps. They generally grow to about 20 to 25cm. (8 to 10 in.),but are nearly all legs. Check out those feet! Apparently they have very large feet straight out of the egg. The females build their nests over the water, on the lilly pads or amongst the reeds. Somtimes the young chicks are carried hidden under the mothers wings. Canon EOS 30D
